Post subject: Important: When and how to challenge moderator rulings Reply with quote

The following maybe revised as necessary.

Due to a noticeable increase in whinging and moaning about moderator actions, I feel it is time to set some ground rules in place. These will help empower both players and moderators to know when it is right to raise objection, and how you can expect us to respond.

Moderators are appointed to do a job, that job is to keep GM a good clean and happy place for players. It is at times necessary for us to remove players for short durations or permanently, or issue point reductions in order to maintain fairness and order.

When you may object to actions taken:

1) Objections must be raised by the player themselves within 7 days of the ban/point reduction. Moderators have no responsibility to look into any complaint beyond those 7 days, or any complaint made by a player unconnected to the situation. In exceptional circumstances you may still request this be looked into, and moderators will always try to help where possible and within reason.

2) All arguments must be delivered in a constructive way. Stating why you feel you have been wrongly treated. It is not allowed to simply complain in order to try your luck at getting the decision over ruled.

3) If a player is found to have wasted moderators time looking into a valid ban/point reduction the player may have their ban increased for wasting time and/or trying to undermine a moderator’s ability.

4) Players who repeatedly challenge moderator decisions on the forum may be banned both in game and on the forum. It is not acceptable for players to involve themselves in moderator’s actions. You may by all means post else where on the forum a general question or idea about moderator decisions, players opinions are always welcome provided they are feasible and realistic.

5) All players are responsible for any behaviour carried out from their computer. Please take any argument about bans caused by family or friends to them and not argue it with us. Ban’s will remain so no matter if the pet dog typed abuse or sent cheat trades, you will be treated the same no matter what.

6) Friendship or pretending friendship to any moderator will not EVER result in any ban being over turned. Moderators act in a responsible fashion and treat all players equally.

How to challenge a ruling:

1) Post either on the forum or via private message to the moderator who issued the ban/point reduction. If you do not know who then post a request for the matter to be looked into.

2) First instance the moderator involved may re-evaluate their decision. We are human and so first off the moderator concerned may rethink and if need be make changes. You will then be informed if any change has been made.

2) If you still disagree you may request your case be re-evaluated by another moderator. Please bare in mind that this may take some time, and can only be done when another moderator is available.
If the second moderator verifies that the penalty issued was warranted and fair the matter is to be dropped. Or you will incur a longer ban for wasting time.

In the event of a complaint against a moderator:

If you have a complaint against any moderator you may do the following:

1) Contact the moderator through PM, maybe the conflict can be resolved privately.
2) If this is not possible you may raise your case to another moderator or on the forum complaint section
3) If necessary the matter will be looked into and responded to by another moderator.
4) If 2 moderators were present, the chances are you were treated fairly. If you still disagree you can request another moderator look over this. This may take some time as we currently have a limited number of active moderators.
3) Players must respect the fact we have a job to do here, and sometimes you may not like what we have to do. We do not always like it either!!!

Moderators do not work here for the fun of it. The only reward we get is knowing we are doing are bit to help GM be fun and enjoyable for all players.

For every ban or point reduction made we have to give details in the logs. Therefore no ban or point reduction is ever issued without reason. Please bare this in mind.

It is very time consuming and demoralizing to have players repeatedly trying to stir up conflict about penalties issued. Players who persistently do this will be removed, as we cannot have the situation where players lose trust and faith in moderators. We are here to help, not be insulted of our competence.

Additional note:

In future NO PERSON unconnected to ANY complaint is allowed to post on that thread. If you do, your post may be deleted or ignored.

You may by all means PM a moderator if you believe something needs to be looked at again. But please USE PM on forum.
They will be taken seriously. But there is to be NO MORE fighting it out on threads.

Moderators will be keeping an eye on other moderators work. Therefore any issues will be raised privately in the moderator section, where WE will decide on the action best suited. There is to be NO MORE of this incessant arguing between players with players or players with moderators. Please use PM's to moderators if you believe any matter is not done correctly.
If a moderator decides to allow a second opinion then it needs to be respected. If that moderator doesn't go the way you want then basically tough. The whole point of something being reviewed by another mod is to balance it out if there were any errors or inconsistencies. I will not tolerate ANY PLAYER trying to swing a moderators decision.

Very good post trace, this needed to be said a long time ago. And there are certain someones that need to read this and take heed as it will be used to ban someone who always questions a mods decision especially if they are not involved.

why is it impossible for anyone to understand the purpose of the ban advocacy............. for the 5th time it is as follows:

Remind me again why you wanted to play ban advocate?

As previously stated the purpose of the ban advocacy is to investigate if proper intervention techniques, sufficient warnings instead of immediate bans and overhaul of other ban processes will result in fewer banned players, shorter and more effective bans, fewer repeat offenders and minimize the effect of bans on otherwise very dedicated players who do not return only because of their bans.

note: key word investigate processes not dispute ban decisions. it was already discussed the futility of trying to overturn bans with existing moderators so disputing them is already known to be a waste of time.

still nothing can be found in writing explaining what durations of bans are taken for particular actions. until this post there was little if nothing in writing about ban processes, at least this is a good start.

thanks for posting this new info trace

For the person who said in pm that you are not objecting just advocating, the above paragraph pertains to you and what you have been doing. Persistently stating there is not any place where it states what the penalty is and that one may be excessive is not your place unless it is against you. Ban lengths are at the discretion of the mod issuing the penalty.

i just wanted to add my 2-cents,
there is never a need for a ban-advocate ( also written as ''petulant ********'') as i am here overlooking any ban/points reduction and here for the players of the game to come to if they feel a moderator is being to pushy etc ,
so thank you for standing down from a position which has never existed.
